A very small village at an altitude of 15256 feet (4650 meters) is the highest village in Spiti and the highest polling station in World. This sleepy hamlet also holds the title of highest village in Spiti Valley. A total of 6 families stay here and the village can sometime remain cut from rest of the world due to roads being blocked by snowfall. Tashigang is 14 Kms from Kibber, the road is not very steep, the accent is gradual but the road twists and turns around the mountains. It is just a dirt road but the drive is very scenic and the route is quite green compared to other parts of Spiti.
In winter months the village looses all the contact with outside world completely due to the harsh weather. All roads are under 5-6 feet of snow, so the community that lives here stocks up all the food to last the whole winter. There is no school for the children hence they teach their own children till primary and for secondary education they send their children to Kye or Kibber. People here grow barley, potatoes and sweet peas and main crops. Water is brought from the mountain streams and collected in ponds around the village for their use and irrigation. At night the skies here look magically lit us with millions of stars and you can see the milky way with naked eye. Nights here are much colder than in Kaza or Kibber and best time to travel is from mid of May to end of September.
