Located at an elevation of 9700 feet in the district of Kinnaur is this quaint little village called Kalpa surrounded by mountains on all sides and known for its apple orchards. In the morning you are greeted by the Buddhist chants from the monastery and cold breeze from across the mountains. It is a place that will mesmerize anyone with its ecstatic charm and beauty. One should visit Kalpa not for places to be visited but to experience peace and tranquility away from the bust city life, spending your morning looking at the Kinner Kailash Peaks while sipping some tea or coffee, taking a walk through the village and the apple orchards are all pleasant experiences.
For adventure lovers there is a short trek to Chaka Peak at an altitude of 15000 feet. The uphill journey takes about 3 hours and coming down takes 1.5 hours. Another interesting place to visit is the suicide point. It is a place with vertical slopes and dangerous trenches and the walk to this point is through apple orchards. Another must visit is Narayan Nagini Temple located atop a hill in Chini Village. The temple has been built in traditional Tibetan Pagoda style architecture. You can visit Kalpa from March to December, but ideal time to visit is from April to June and September to October. If you are an apple lover, then September and October are ideal months.
