Located at an elevation of 11300 feet, in the Kinnaur Valley if this last village on the Indo-Tibetan border. All travelers are mesmerized by the natural beauty of Chitkul. The village is surrounded by snow clad mountains with Baspa river flowing nearby, lot of apple orchards, meadows, huge rocks and grasslands. It is 28 Kms from the Sangla Valley. The village has around 600 residents who are extremely warm and hospitable towards travelers. There are many campsites located in the orchards by the banks of river Baspa. One can go for longs walks in and around Chitkul. You can visit the 500 year old Mathi temple of take a stroll along the Baspa river and take a short trek to Nagari where an ITBP Post is located.

Best time to visit Chitkul if from April to October, except for the monsoon period. Though the road to Chitkul opens in 2nd week of March, the road conditions are not very good, there is slush on the roads, landslides & snow slides are common and it is extremely cold.
