  • Weather and Packing: Vietnam experiences diverse climates, so pack accordingly. Light and breathable clothing is ideal for the hot and humid weather, especially in the south, while the northern regions can get cooler during winter months. Don't forget to pack comfortable walking shoes and a hat for protection from the sun.
  • Respect Local Customs: Vietnamese culture places great importance on respect and courtesy. Learn some basic Vietnamese phrases and be mindful of local customs, such as taking off your shoes when entering someone's home or a temple.
  • Bargaining: Bargaining is common in markets and small shops. Be polite but assertive, and remember that a smile goes a long way. In more established stores, prices are usually fixed.
  • Street Food: Vietnamese street food is a must-try, but choose vendors with good hygiene practices. Look for places with a lot of locals, as that usually indicates good quality and safe food.
  • Local Scams: Be aware of common scams and stay cautious when approached by overly friendly strangers. Always double-check prices and services before making any payment.
  • Health and Hygiene: Stay hydrated, especially in hot weather, and drink bottled water only. Carry hand sanitizer or wet wipes for hygiene when soap and water are not readily available.
  • Travel Insurance: Purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unexpected events.
  • Respect the Environment: Vietnam is known for its beautiful landscapes, so help preserve it by being mindful of waste and using reusable items whenever possible.
  • Crossing the Streets: Traffic in Vietnam can be chaotic, especially in big cities. When crossing the streets, follow the locals' lead and walk at a steady pace, making eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you.
