Spiti Valley Jeep Safari from Manali

Arrive on your own in Manali. Check in at the hotel.
We suggest that after resting for some time take some short hikes within Manali or visit old Manali town. Walk as much as possible as that will help you to acclimatize to higher altitude.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Check out early morning around 5:30 am, leave for Kaza. It is almost a 10 hours drive and you need to do some water crossing, and it is advisable to do them before noon. Specially Chota Dhara, which is one of the tough water crossings on this route.
You can stop for your breakfast at Marhi, 17 Kms short of Rohtang Pass.
You will be able to cross Rohtang Pass by 8:00 am in the morning. From here you drive on to Batal via Gramphu & Chhatru. Rohtang to Chhatru will take you a maximum of 2 hours or lesser. At Chhatru there is a small dhaba for tea/coffee and washroom break. From here to Chota Dhara it will take you another 1 hour, so you should be crossing Chota Dhara around 11:00 am.
Around 12:00 noon you will arrive at Batal where there is a famous Chacha Chachi Dhaba. It is nothing fancy, just a make shift structure, but have a lot of interesting stories to tell. Menu is also simple. We suggest you have you lunch here.
From Batal you will start your climb to famous Kunzum Pass, there is no metal road, it is just a first trach and this 13 Kms journey can take up to an hour. At Kunzum Pass everyone stops to pay their respects at the Kunzum Mata Mandir. We suggest not to stop here for too long as you are at a height of 15000 feet. From here we the downhill drive takes you to a place called Losar. You can have some tea/coffee here and use the washrooms.
The drive from Losar to Chicham and then on to Kaza is perhaps the most scenic drives on this route. You will see barren mountains of all colors, shapes and sizes. You should finally be able to arrive in Kaza between 5:30 to 6:00 pm.
Check into your hotel. We suggest that you top up your fuel tanks as Kaza is the only places that has a petrol pump in the region.

We always suggest an early start. Say around 08:00 am drive to Gue Monastery. You will cross the Tabo village on the way which is 48 Kms from Kaza. Then 25 Kms from Tabo there is a sharp reverse U turn on the highway from where the road on the left side goes to Gue Monastery. The Monastery is around 9.5 Kms from this turning. It will take around 2½ hours to reach Gue.
You can spend up to and hours here taking photos of the monastery and the surrounding mountains. There is an ITBP post here. There is a small dhaba here where you can get tea/coffee, some omelet and Maggie noodles.
From Gue we drive back to Tabo village. You should be able to arrive in Tabo by 1:00 pm. You can have lunch here at one of the local restaurants. Visit the Tabo monastery and spend time taking photos.
Around 3:00 pm leave for Dhankar Monastery. It will take you around 1½ hours to reach Dhankar. 23 Kms from Tabo monastery on the Tabo-Kaza highway there is a road that turns right to Dhankar. From here Dhankar is about 8.5 Kms uphill drive.
On arrival check-in at your Home stay.
Visit the Dhankar monastery. From top of the monastery you can take some lovely pictures. From many points on the highway also you can take pictures of Dhankar Monastery and the village.
Dinner and overnight at the Home stay.

Today you can do a relaxed check-out. Leave Dhankar by 10:00 am and drive to Lallung Monastery. There are 2 roads that go to Lallung. The first one is the metaled road that take you to Tabo – Kaza highway (the same way you came) and on your way to Kaza you have to take a right turn about one Kilometer before Attargo Bridge and an uphill drive of about 9 Kms will take you to Lallung. Other way is a complete dirt track that takes you to Lallung but you need to be a good driver to drive on this road. Either way you should arrive at Lallung Monastery by 11:30.
If you are in luck you will find the head priest of the monastery there or his daughter will be there and they will explain you the whole history of the Monastery.
After spending an hour in Lallung, you can leave for Kye Monastery. You will cross Kaza (1 – 1.25 hours drive) on the way where you can stop for lunch and then carry on to Kye Monastery.
Kye monastery is 15 Kms from Kaza and it will take about 45 minutes to reach there. You can spend 1 – 1.5 hours at Kye monastery before returning back to Kaza.
On arrival check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast leave for Hikkin Village at 09:00 hours. The drive is about 16 Kms but the road is in a pretty bad shape and it is mostly an uphill drive. It will take you goo 1½ hours to reach Hikkim Village which is famous for having world’s highest Post Office. You can but post cards from the shop opposite to the post office and post them to your friends and family anywhere in the world.
From the highway the post office is about 500 meters downhill. The village have just few mud and brick houses. The climb back can be strenuous due to lack of oxygen at this height.
From here a 15 minutes drive takes us to to Komic Village which is 3 Kms from Hikkim. This is the highest village in the world that is connected by a motorable road. Here you can stop at Spiti Organic Kitchen for lunch, it claims to be the highest restaurant in the world.
After lunch carry on to Langza Village which is 10 Kms from Komic and takes another 30-45 minutes of driving. On arrival check in at the Home stay.
After relaxing for a while drive to see the huge Buddha Statue located on the outskirts of the village. You can also for fossil hunting, but we suggest that you should not bring the fossils back with you. If you want you can but replicas made by locals as souvenirs.
Langza is one of the best places for star gazing.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

If you wish to travel to Tashigang, then we suggest that you leave early by 8:30 am. If you plan to skip Tashigang then you can perhaps leave around 10:00 – 10:30 am. Tashigang is at least a 2 hours drive from Langza. Tashigang is the highest polling station in the world. There are just 5-6 houses in all and it is basically inhabited by one family.
From Tashigang we drive on to Kibber Village which is one hour drive from here. If we are skipping Tashigang then Kibber is about 1.5 hour drive from Langza. After spending about an hour in Kibber we drive on to Chandra Tal lake.
On the way we can stop at Losar for lunch. From Losar we drive on crossing the Kunzum Pass and just before Batal there is a road going right to Chandra Tal. This road goes along the river Chenab and takes us right to Chandratal.
On arrival check in at your camp. Dinner and overnight at the Camp.

Early in the morning (around 7:00 am) before breakfast, a 10 minute drive from your camp will take you to the parking from where you need to walk about 1 Km to Chandra Tal lake. Go prepared for a windy and cold very cold morning.
Click photographs to your hearts content. Spend around 90 minutes here and then return to the camp for breakfast.
Around 10:00 am leave for Manali. En route you can stop ay Chhatru for some tea/coffee and snacks. By the time you reach Rohtang, it will be quite crowded and there will be a lot of traffic. You may stop for lunch at Marhi.
Arrive Manali in the late afternoon and check in at your hotel. Relax at your hotel.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast check-out from the hotel.
In case you have driven from Delhi or Chandigarh, you will drive back to your home town. Alternately you can take an overnight Volvo coach to Chandigarh or Delhi.
